Replacing the most anticipated drama of the year (and also perhaps, the most overrated drama of the year), He Who Must Bear the Weight of the Crown- Heirs, You Who Came From the Stars has so far come across as a breezy romantic-comedy with a dash of intrigue and thriller (read: a psychotic CEO who murders anyone who poses a threat to him). The fact that the supernatural aspect here is an alien, rather than the usual gumiho folklore, is nothing less than a refreshing breeze in K-dramaland. Also, it does help that Kim Soo Hyun looks AMAZING (hello, shower scenes!) and Gianna Jun is doing a great job of eliciting laughs as well as evoking sympathy for her character.

WAZZ IT 'BOUT!??

400-year old hot alien? Check.
Gorgeous Hallyu Star? Check.
What happens when both meet? Add a history between them (previous incarnation on part of Cheon Seon-Yi), an insight into the dark, competitive and lonely world of showbiz and a CEO who will go to any lengths to protect his position; you get a wonderful blend of hilarity and romance with intrigue and suspense.

MY FIRST IMPRESSION:

Oh well. The first thing that came to my mind was, "Bye Damon Salvatore and Klaus Michaelson. I have found a better supernatural being with superior superhuman powers than yours." And then, this scene came on-

Which had me reacting like this-

Seriously, how do you resist such hotness? I cannot.

Apart from Soo Hyun's utter smexiness, I love the entire concept of the drama- an alien stuck on Earth for 400 years with a past with a previous incarnation of Seon-Yi. Despite the frothy and sweet romance and a seemingly superficial, the best thing about this drama is that the plot is layered; they are just waiting to be unearthed. A great premise has been set and at the end of the 4th episode, trouble seems to be brewing in the horizon (Sorry folks! Not giving out any spoilers).

The drama is also doing a beautiful job of depicting the loneliness, malice and restrictions that confront you in the lap of fame through Seon-Yi's character. She has everything that the average person usually desires- beauty, fame, wealth, success- and yet, she does not have something as simple as a shoulder to lean on during dark times. Her family is estranged and she has no real friends. Her every action and step is scrutinized and criticized by the public. It leaves one wondering whether fame is worth all the pain and trouble that comes with it.

So far, this drama has managed to hit all my sweet spots when it comes to K-drama; great chemistry between the OTP (oh my, I can see the fireworks happening already), a quick-paced and consistently developing plot, a great build-up to the central tension and leaving me wanting MORE!

How do I wait until Thursday? O to ke!!?

I do hope the drama does not lose its momentum as it progresses because I see great potential for it and I hate to see dramas going downhill after a fantabulous (that's fantastic+fabulous, if you're wondering) start!

Bring it on, drama!!
Signing off!
Aja! Aja! Hwaiting!
